Taylor Swift has trained her fans so well they could practically become detectives. Hidden easter eggs, encoded messages and cryptic clues are just some of the things Taylor Swift leaves for us Swifties to obsess over.  

This isn’t a new strategy of hers, she’s been teasing us since the beginning of her career. 

What started as secret messages in her lyrics turned into full blown easter eggs chaos. If you’ve been on the Swiftie side of the internet these days, you know exactly what I’m talking about. 

Decoding Taylor Swift’s Easter Egg Riddles

Beginning this trend innocently in 2006 has now turned into a scavenger hunt for easter egg clues. Nothing is off limits. Clothing, jewelry, music video sets and even friends have all been used at one point. She’s even used her nail color to announce her upcoming album's color scheme during a music video for a current album release.

“The best messages are cryptic ones” Swift once said. 

In 2017, Taylor Swift Easter Eggs became more visual. During the Reputation Era she stopped doing interviews but still wanted to connect and communicate with her fans. ‘Look What You Made Me Do’   is what Taylor Swift claims is the most “Easter egg-y video of my career”. It is filled with hundreds of hidden meanings and symbols hinting as to what she is up to and what's coming next. Some of these clues have been yet to be discovered years later. 

Nothing is as it seems with Taylor Swift, especially given when she wrote “Not a lot going on at the moment” on instagram and dropped not one but two albums that following year. 

 

How Midnights Marketing Is Unlike Any Other

Since the first post detailing the album art, track number and release date on instagram, fans have been on high alert. But she has taken a little bit of a different approach with the advertising of this album. 

Midnight's Mayhem, a TikTok series started by Taylor Swift gaining more than 83 MILLION views, was where she announced she would be doing things a little differently this time. 

“I Know I have a habit of dropping cryptic clues and Easter eggs when giving you information about my music, and I’m not here to deny that, but I am here to defy that.” With a 13 night countdown until the album release, Taylor Swift revealed track titles and the meaning behind each song. Something she has rarely done in the past. 

Still, that hasn’t stopped the social media take over of theories and possible meanings behind every outfit and word choice. 

She even has Jimmy Fallon going into a frenzy to pick up all the hidden symbolism and clues. 

But it wasn’t just Jimmy Fallon, companies across social media were using Midnights as a way to up their accounts interactions.

Talk about word of mouth marketing. 

People who don’t even listen to Taylor Swift have some knowledge of her album. And the group of people she wasn’t getting to before? Well they might see her on their TV during Amazon Primes Thursday Night Football. 

 

What Makes Taylor Swift Stand Out From All Other Artists?

Long gone are the days where people buy records and cd albums, so how does she manage to sell so many? 

Personalization and Rebranding. 

Fans flock to purchase her CD’s from Target because they have exclusive bonus content and sometimes even the chance to run into her at the store. 

Her music isn’t just music, it’s a message laid out for fans to uncover and interact with. Everything she does is an experience making you feel personally connected with her. Every album is a little different from the next.

While other artists announce albums, do press and release songs: Taylor Swift creates an alternate universe for fans giving an insight into her mind and just how creative she can be.

Not only are there Taylor Swift Easter eggs keeping open a line of communication between everyone, but she invites a group of hard core fans into her home for a pre-release listening party of the newest album release, connecting with them in a very real way. 

So, Is Taylor Swift A Marketing Queen? 

Yes. No one does marketing quite like the queen herself. Meaning to or not, Taylor Swift created an entire album marketing strategy that engages fans, news sources, gossip sites and critics. 

Planning, planning, planning is what makes this so successful. Like 3 years in advance planning. While promoting one album, the next album details are hidden right in front of our eyes, keeping a never ending speculation game. SwiftTok here we come. 

Taylor Swift Easter eggs are everywhere. Keep your eyes open and you might just uncover one yourself.
