Safest Countries for Women

To travel is to get out of your comfort zone, see the world and have new experiences.

However, as females we need to be extra safe and very aware of our surroundings.

Along with checking the weather and fit inspo, safety must be prioritized before visiting a new country.

So follow along for the top five safest countries for women to visit while working remotely!!

Iceland

The land of fire and ice, known for its landscapes and sceneries, a place of natural wonder. And year after year Iceland wins the title for the safest country in the world which is no surprise at all.

Iceland has a very low crime rate, so much so that you can hitchhike and nothing bad will happen (we tested this theory).

Iceland also has a very low rate of natural disasters, even though a volcano recently erupted, no human fatalities were reported.

And they don’t have any harmful animals, we did a few hikes and nothing was peeking around the corner. We’ve seen more bears in New Jersey than in Iceland.

It’s perfect for those who enjoy landscapes and exploring, and a top choice for a female traveler. No wonder it is one of the safest countries for women.

If you have a remote job, try being a digital nomad for a bit and work from this magical country!

Try these three hostels to get you started: Kex, Bus Hostel, Dalur Hi.

Portugal

If you are more of a city girl, have no fear, take a plane and head to Portugal. Porto and Lisbon are two of their most popular cities and have a lot to offer.

Porto is smaller, quieter, but filled with beautiful architecture, history, views, and wine!

Porto is 100% walkable and safe to do so. When visiting you can go with no map, get lost, go through the alleys and be surprised at how unique this small city is.

Lisbon, although bigger than Porto, is still a safe city. Yes, there are cases of petty theft, but just like in any scenario tourists should be aware of their surroundings. That being said, Lisbon is also filled with beautiful architecture, it is very progressive and diverse.

Strike up a conversation with a local and you’ll quickly learn that they are one of the friendliest people you will ever meet. Both Lisbon and Porto made us feel that Portugal is not only a beautiful country but one of the safest countries for women to visit.

Now all you have to do is find the best flight deals and instead of working from home, work from Portugal 😉 we won’t tell. But we will help you with these hostels you can stay at: Safestay Lisboa, Home Lisbon, Oasis

Spain

Now onto Portugal’s neighbor, Spain! One of the more popular countries to visit in Europe due to its chill vibes, party scene, and beaches.

Yes, everyone talks about the pickpocketers by La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona but from personal experience as long as you are aware of your valuables you will be fine.

Spain is the country every female traveler should visit because of the diversity it offers. There is culture, food, beaches, nightlife, landscapes, museums, the list goes on and on!

We visited Barcelona and Madrid - the two biggest cities in Spain and left with amazing memories. Don’t be afraid to visit these cities from rumors you may hear, use your common sense and stay in these hostels if you plan on being a digital nomad in the beautiful country of Spain: Unite Hostel, Petite Hostel, La Cocotera Hostel

Switzerland

Ah, Switzerland. The country of chocolate and cheese! Our two favorite snacks. Switzerland has to be on our top five for safest countries for women, not just because of the food lol.

The Swiss are probably the kindest people we’ve met when traveling, their energy is like no other. The streets are supremely clean and you may think well that’s nothing special but coming from New Jersey, yes it is lol!

Switzerland has a low risk of pickpocketers, natural disaster, scams, and pretty much any other threat you may think of. The only scary thing might be the cost of the flight to get there.

Switzerland is probably one of the safest countries for women travelers to visit. Work a bit and then go skiing, sounds like the perfect day to us!

We’ve attached a few hostels to help you save a few bucks for your next Swiss trip. Thank us later! Youth Hostel, Oldtown Hostel, Green Marmot Hostel.

New Zealand

This is for you, adventurers! New Zealand ranked #2 for the overall Global Peace Index right behind Iceland. If that isn’t a selling point, we don’t know what is.

Female travelers can comfortably book a flight with no fear in the world. The locals there are known to be very friendly.

Take a few epic hikes, bungee jump, visit hot springs and enjoy your time there! When planning your adventure, make sure to check out these hostels! With truly no worry, enjoy your time in the second safest country women should visit: Nomads, Urbanz, Jailhouse Accommodation.

General Safety Tips

Although these are the safest countries for women to visit, as a traveler, especially a female traveler we have to be on our toes at all times.

Before picking your destination make sure to do some research of the country, the area, and where you plan on staying.

Try not to stay out too late especially if you are alone, do not wander late at night! Use taxis and rideshares safely, make sure they are picking up the right person and let a friend know your location. When traveling only take what you need and always zip up your purse/backpack, don’t make it easy for the pickpocketers.

Every girl has had to learn this when going out, watch your drink! There is nothing wrong with going out to a rooftop, a club, or bar but do not let your drink leave your sight.

Traveling is an amazing experience, so please be safe when making memories!
