Women in Tech

Gender equality has been a major problem in the corporate world, and with the rise of tech companies growing and more roles being open, women want to be understood and represented in leading leadership positions.

In college admission, fewer women choose technology-related careers, but after graduation, those fewer women than men end up working in tech positions.

The tech industry needs gender diversity to continue thriving. Women are here to stay and make an impact on this world so let’s discuss 3 reasons why we need women in tech.

#1: Being More Diverse is Better

One of the main reasons women leave the tech industry is the gender stereotype of masculine energy in this profession.

Traditionally, tech was a male-dominated field, so women will tend to get fewer opportunities to work in tech, only a few women made it to the top positions.

As a result, women may feel discouraged about discovering roles into tech.

There’s a slow but steady increase in the number of women in tech. And as this growth continues, more and more women will be in tech soon.

But why is this important? Progress for women is progress for all. Women are leading this generation and with the continuation of boss women, we know that being a part of a company that doesn’t value women is no joke!

A work environment with more diversity leads to better communication and better problem solving in collaborating with other different genders, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and this can become a positive impact on companies.

#2: We Need More Role Models

Women are as good at technology as men. It’s not the lack of interest that keeps women from pursuing tech-related careers but rather the unsupportive culture, so a good starting point to get women in tech is creating a supportive culture in homes, schools, and the workplace.

A career in tech starts with education. If you want to pursue a career in tech, it’s always good to choose subjects in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics).

Remember, many women have made it in the tech field, which means you can as well so there’s no need to feel limited in how you make it to the top or feel intimidated by men.

There are so many ways to explore STEM subjects whether that be through traditional classes, self-guided learning, bootcamps, and more.

The representation of women working in the tech industry is often thought as women being less than or weaker because of the pressure and workload while trying to plan a future with children and marriage.

But in many cases, women want to be inspired by powerful women who are successful in the business and create an open door to many opportunities for others who feel stuck.

We need more role models and companies need to appreciate that this can be impactful for the future.

We need women to show companies that they need accountability in these public policies to ensure that there is a presence of role models to show leadership, make a difference in young women’s lives.

#3: Create a Supportive Culture

Women and men see things a little differently, which isn't overall a bad thing but in a light of perspective it's all good to bring new ideas that are outside the box which women can bring to the table.

The presence of a woman can combine different opinions and perspectives which can be a good pressure and something all companies should value.

Women in Tech will gain better reputations for companies around the workforce, this can potentially be helpful in the long run.

Women will create organizations that will help create gender-neutral job descriptions to encourage women to apply and feel less intimidating.

Therefore, hiring companies will motivate women by giving them equal pay as their male colleagues.

Hiring boards would have women’s representations to avoid gender bias in the hiring process. Companies should have inclusive cultures that don’t make women feel left out.

If top tech companies give women a fair share in senior positions, this move can help encourage younger women interested in pursuing a career in tech.

The main goal here is why we need women in tech and encouragement is the way to go. Unless you have built and nurtured a true female-friendly tech culture, they aren’t going to stay in the industry.

Change starts with speaking up, and women aren't afraid to say something when you know it could be different especially if it's the favor of all included.

When everyone contributes to making the workplace a better environment, change becomes more active and realistic, helping encourage future generations to want to be a part of it.

It’s not too late for women to start their journey into tech

As time and years fly by, the demand for tech workers keeps on growing. Women can be such a great help in diversity in tech helps to look at problems differently and provide effective solutions.

No matter how you look at it, a more gender diverse workforce is better for business, especially in Tech. Women are more than capable and qualified to excel in Tech-based fields, like engineering, coding, cybersecurity, and more.

Many women already are excelling in Tech despite the odds stacked against them. It’s time all companies recognize the bottom line benefits that prioritizing the hiring of qualified women in Tech provides.

Although, women in tech must embrace self-awareness, self-love, and embrace confidence to overcome pressure while dealing with others this can be huge for following generations to come.

Do you believe we need more women in tech?
